Girls Night!

I was sooo excited to recieve an invite to a girls night out! I needed it too. Yesterday, I had a day that justed seemed to drag. After Derek's game my friend Angie picked Ashley and I up, and we met up with several girls at Alamo Cafe! Yum!! I got to catch up with gals that I haven't been able to sit and chat with for awhile. It was very encouraging.

Thanks for a great time girls!! I look forward to next time!!

Ashley, Rachel, Vanessa, Megan, Melissa, Angie, new Angie, and myself.

Marshall JV Football

Derek had his first game of the season last night. It was Marshall vs. Lee. The game was pretty exciting and pretty close! Aaron, myself, JD, Georgia, Cathy, Ryan, and Derek's new youth leader- nick were there to cheer him and his team on! Derek is number 25 and will be playing cornerback. It was soo cool to see my baby out there on the field! Thanks to Cathy, Ryan, and Nick for coming- Derek was really encouraged!
By the way...Rams won 18-12!

We had an interesting but successful day

Today started by me stumbling into the pantry for cearal. Not only did I see cearal but a jug of milk was staring me in the face. Yuck! I put it away and opened a brand new jug to eat my cearal.

We got started pretty quickly. I wanted to stay on task because Georgia had her last gymnastics class that will be in the morning. I used to enjoy them being held in the morning and I still wish it could stay that way but her skill level needs to be moved to pre-team which is held at night. We are really proud of her. JD took the initive to take care of school work that could be done while he was waiting. He did a math test, spelling oral pre test and read silently. Go JD!

After lunch- which by the way I made homemade chicken fried steak fingers- yummy!
We completed science and English after. My favorite part was the kids were so excited to learn what the topic of creative writing warm up would be. It has been interesting topics. They catch their attention. For instance, What if elephants came to a picnic, or what if the kitchen cleaned it's self- they do the dishes, so this was personal. Other blessings are that I am recording grades and they are taking that seriously. Georgia is super competitive and I hope this will encourage her to do better.

I spent the rest of the evening in a meeting with the church on how to build up our small groups within the congregation and make them inviting to new members.

When we got home we found Derek deeply involved in homework. I wonderful sight in my eyes and heart! He was taking things very seriously. He even gave a lesson on Latin to help him study. I am all for that. I have never learned latin and Aaron was very informative to how this relates to our language. Cool stuff! I am proud of his effort! Keep it up!

The First Days of School

The exciting part of this blog is being a family journal. We can definately look back at good days for encouragement.

Today was Derek's first day of school. He went to bed early last night. -cell phone turned in by 9.I will begin by stating he chose to take a zero hour class. What that means is he is taking an extra class before school starts. Health is his zero hour class, and it begins at 7:30. That means he has to get up around 6 to get ready and eat. He is always really good about getting up on his own and getting going- always. He wanted me to get up early too(6 am) and make him pancakes for breakfast. Sure! I can do that. I didn't set my alarm and told him just to get me up when he got up. Again, he is always good about getting up on time. But not this morning. He set his alarm and forgot to turn it on. He ran in my room, freaking out, that he had 20 min to be in class! I jumped up and put on some flipflops and waited at the door. He came flying out. Poor guy, didn't even get to eat breakfast. I asked him in the car if he brushed his teeth, he sighed and said no- he's really good about that too. Thankfully I had a new tooth brush and toothpaste for JD since he is still learning to take care of his braces- he hadn't used it yet. I gave it to Derek to brush his teeth at school. Poor guy! I didn't know what to say, so I stayed quiet. I hope he has a good rest of the day.

JD and Georgia got started pretty good. I was able to make them pancakes. JD and Georgia decided to get their morning going on there own. They did their spelling at 7:45! That is one of the subjects they can do on their own and they wanted to get it out of the way. I won't argue with that. I got going with my morning routine(thanks to FlyLady). The kids were able to do the same. They had a great attitude for the most part. Georgia however flipped out when she saw the amount of math she had to do. Welcome to third grade! Last week we did alot of introductions stuff and review. This week is back in the swing of things. Georgia loved her English/Language lessons, while JD doesn't. They both enjoyed writing about green spagetti as a writing warm up. We made a bird feeder for science and concluded our day with reading. Whew! Overall, we had a good productive day.

I'm really excited to be back in a routine. I for sure will set my alarm to be sure Derek doesn't over sleep and he can have a good day. I'm sure it won't hurt to get an earlier start anyway. We already have our first field trip scheduled! KSAT 12 news station! I can't wait, they will have a great time!

That's it for now.
