Great Day S.A.

Today we went on a field trip to another one of our news stations. This time we went to Kens 5 and had the privilege of sitting in the live audience of the morning show, Great Day S.A.! It truly was great!!

At 8:45 A.M. they ushered us into the audience seating area. It was quite a sight to see all the camera guys rushing around. They were doing mic checks on all the guests for the show and the hosts of course looked great. It was really neat to see them in person. We all clapped and cheered when they told us to. The camera zoomed in right on Georgia. The camera guy gave her a 30 second warning and told her to SMILE BIG! She looked beautiful!! This isn't the first time she has shown off her winning smile... JD got to hold the camera! Boy, he was so excited! He's already great with a camera. Who knows, maybe we have a future camera guy.. We got a good idea of how much every second counts when they run a TV show. They had every segment timed exactly. If every single person didn't do their job well, it wouldn't work. Kudos to all of them, they did great!!

It was a Great Day in S.A. and we enjoyed every second of it!!

The Quiet After the Storm...

I know the saying is supposed to say the quiet be for the storm. Maybe there was quiet before the storm of last week but I don't remember...lol. I stated in an earlier blog entry that I fell and hurt my shoulder on Wednesday. I don't have time to be hurt. Life goes on with out my help or not. Wednesday was spent at the doctor then on the couch. Thursday was spent slowly for me as well. By the time we got home from JD's doctors appointment I was ready to keep pushing myself to move on. I moving around okay but I still had to miss hand bell practice. That's one of the highlights of my week! I love going to hand bells! There was no way I could ring a bell this week. I did however get to attend Mom's night out.-so fun. And then my weekend took off like a tornado!

Friday started with a park day with other homeschoolers, major grocery shopping, lunch with JD and Georgia at McDonald's, pick up Derek from school, Georgia had a friend spend the night, and date with my honey watching the Rangers play the Yankees- boo they lost- prob because I was talking smack.

Saturday involved a trip to the pharmacy, pick up roses for Georgia, pick up Aaron from work, go to Georgia's gymnastics meet, go to a pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins, to the feed store for hay, and then home to watch the Rangers play the Yankees-I kept my mouth shut till the game was over.

Sunday we enjoyed church and a relaxing day at home. Sundays are my favorite day of the week. A fresh start.

Today we went subject by subject retracing what assignments they completed while I was down. They were really good about keeping up. I was really proud of their math and language "homework". Thank goodness for routine! They have a routine everyday that we follow. They knew what and where their assignments were and got them done, asking for help when they needed it. JD finished of 3 books the Diary of a Whimpy Kid and well, lets just say Georgia got all sorts of art done..lol. I hesitated to give Georgia her grammar test today but went ahead and gave it to her. She helped me grade it anxiously. She was relieved to get a 90. "Few!!!", she said. (meaning whew!) I didn't have the heart to tell her she mispronounced it...lol, it was too cute!

I love my job!

Georgia's Gymnastics Meet

Today we watched Georgia in her first gymnastics meet. It was fun to watch and neat to give her all the special attention! She was super nervous. This is the first sport that she has participated that judged her personal performance. Here are some great pictures! She did well at each event. She performed on the floor, beam, bars, and vault. These were her scores: Vault 9.3, Bars 8.9, Beam 8.1, and Floor 9.6! Her favorite was bars and beam! The meet concluded with ribbons and medals for all the girls. Thanks Melanie!! Great Job Georgia!!!

Not So Happy Feet

Jd saw the doctor about his feet today. Apparently this doctor specializes in children so JD felt right at home. I was super proud of him as he told the doctor exactly of his woes. I didn't have to add anything. He's so good about speaking to adults! So the doctor says the tissue on his heal is super inflamed and he is walking to compensate for the pain. Because he has been dealing with this for awhile we will need to be more aggressive with exercises and an anti-inflammatory for the next couple of weeks. I was really excited that the doctor approved of his new tennis shoes. I got them at Target and hoped we didn't need "fancier" shoes. Doc says they are great. He did require a specific sole insert. That's ok, I expected that. We left confident that he would be back on his feet as normal.

Refreshing Treat

I received a hutch from Aaron for my birthday! He asked my father-in-law to make it for me as a surprise. Boy was I surprised! I have been begging for change in our kitchen. Redoing or even updating a kitchen can cost alot. So this has been a super long process. I have been begging for more cabinet space but not sure what to do. ANYWAY. My wonderful husband solved that problem. I received the gift on my birthday and it sat in my garage for a bit till we had time to paint it. We picked a color to match the counter tops and I love it!!

I love that we did it together. It is the perfect place for all my cake decorating supplies. Those supplies are kinda awkward to put away and need space. We also needed a place to put all our beer and wine glasses! That may sound simple but we have different glasses for different purposes. Too bad we didn't have any wine or beer on hand to celebrate! Oh, I love it so much! I was motivated to repaint our island to match the hutch. My kitchen looks wonderful. I feel revived to enjoy this space!

I thank the good Lord for the blessings he gives me and I pray that I will not complain for more. I love you Lord. I love my husband. AND I love my father-in-law Tim for his wonderful God given talent, and sharing it with us.
This weekend had it's fair share of hard work and blessings. Friday started out at the doctor for JD. He's not sick, but he's had some trouble with his feet. He has been complaining off and on about his heel. In one specific spot it's pretty painful. But, he's a pretty active kid and will complain and then go play and we think nothing more. Last week he was playing outside and twisted his other ankle. We decided to go ahead and get him checked out. He was referred out to a podiatrist. So he will see that doctor on Thursday. He will be able to answer other questions we have. Like why does he look like he is in pain when walking and running? Why does he walk and run flat footed and on the outsides of his feet? We see this more when he is wearing shoes than when he is in flipflops. So for now his pediatrician says for him to wear good tennis shoes and IB profen constantly till he sees the other doctor.

Saturday was nice. I got alot cleaned out of the garage. It was neat to see how much we had accumulated together over the years. I wasn't cleaning out old boxes of just his stuff or just my stuff. I don't know why I noticed that. It's amazing how much room we have. We might be able to fit a car in there...lol. Not likely. If you have seen our garage, it tends to be an area that stuff piles up untill we can't walk safely...:/. Some people can keep their garage nice and tidy all the time. How do they do that with kids? I probably should figure that out.....hmm along with the other hundred things I have to do. Anyway, we are enjoying our garage for now. Aaron had a free day for once so he, JD, and Georgia went to Poteet to dove hunt. I stayed home and finished the garage.

Once that was done Derek asked me to take him driving. Today we had to go in the truck. It's a standard! We have moved it around in a parking lot a few times so we felt comfortable to take it for a spin in the neighborhood! The first stop sign he did great! He didn't stall out or squeal the tires. We were so excited. The second brought us back to reality. We waved the cars behind us to go around and he tried again. The funny thing was that must have been garage sale day so lots of people watched him over and over restart and stall out. A truck of cute girls he knew from school passed him too, he blushed. After about an hour he was ready for a brake and I was too. He offered to take me to my favorite(his too) restraunt! I couldn't turn that down. Making it there had it's adventures too, so by the time we got there we were ready to STEP AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE!...lol. We had a great lunch and lots to talk and laugh about. Thank goodness God watched over everyone on the roads...heehee.

I spent the rest of the evening quietly. Derek had movie night at church so I took him and dropped him off. I cleaned up a bit and got lots of laundry done. It was sooo quiet. I happily welcomed Aaron home when he was done hunting.

Marco! Polo!

Sunday was a really cool family day! We started with church. I got to sit in Pastor Dan's sunday school class. He was on vacation and Aaron was teaching. I had never heard him teach before. All this time we have just been in different classes, so I sat in to listen this time. It was really great and I'm glad God has and is blessing his service and passion.

After that we all enjoyed our "brown enchilladas". This dish is usually on Sundays when everyone can be there to have them. We straightened up the house and headed out for our adventure.

We drove out to Hondo to the Corn Maize. Aaron's badge got us in free!! The kids got to jump on a massive moonbounce, play on hay bales (not new to them, play with water pumps and run around. We got to take a picture in a spot set up for that sort of thing. -one of the best of the five of us! The maize this year was in the shape of a picture of George Straight. We headed out together to see if we could figure it out. We did NOT get a map. There are numbered spots to at least tell you your going the right way. JD had a blast hiding around corners in the cornstalks and jumping out to scare us. I jumped everytime! What a stinker!! Georgia was enjoying being in charge of direction. She also likes to hide and see if anyone can find her. Derek walked around kissing the corn to make it whistle. JD called him a corn kisser and we just couldn't stop laughing- guess you had to be there. Anyway, after the 8th stop out of 10, Georgia wanted me to go with her to hid. She kept running and I ran with her. Then we waited for them to look for us. We waited, and waited, and waited. They didn't come.:/ So we decided to find our way back to them but then we got lost...lol. She did navigate us back to #6 but obviously that was backwards! Meanwhile Aaron and the boys got out. They heard us but we all couldn't see each other so we played Marco/polo to find each other. I could hear them but we couldn't figure it out. Georgia suggested we just run through the corn and I explained that is cheating. ( I was tempted)

Eventually we found our way out. We all agreed it was time to go home. We had a cool scenic route home! It was a great day. We love this time of year!
